Setting Sail - 'Tales of the Sea' Launch

It's been such an exciting week in my little world.  First I got to share our exciting news and today I get to share the other exciting project I've been working on over the past few months, 'Tales of the Sea' my first co-designed jewellery collection for Wilde Asher

This collaboration has been a true family affair, with my mum Annie, Wilde Asher's creative designer mentoring me through the design and construction process of each unique piece and my gorgeous sister Phoebe, modelling the collection and editing the our lookbook shoot. To transform my ideas from journal scribbles, to creation and then style and photograph the finished products has been such a wonderful experience.  The collection is inspired by my fascination for the ocean, from the lost city of Atlantis, to beautiful mermaids, pirates and mythology.  With many of the pieces containing vintage components and gems that I've been collecting for years, making 'Tales of the Sea' is very dear to my heart.

Pop over to Wilde Asher to check out our lookbook and view the whole collection.

And be sure to pop over to the Wilde Asher blog to enter our 'Tales of the Sea ' giveaway for a chance to win this one of a kind, handmade 'Mermaid Song' necklace from the collection. Be quick, the giveaway closes tomorrow night.

Treasure Hunting..

Having a collector's soul means I just adore a good treasure hunt.. Give me a thrift store, a car boot sale, a refuse centre and I'll be happy for hours.  I can spot a piece of Pyrex or Staffordshire pottery from a mile away, but on today's adventures, we were searching for treasures that were not as easy to see.  Today was all about finding statement pieces for future Wilde Asher jewellery collections. So I had to forgo staring longingly at the retro kitchenware and focus my bowerbird instincts on treasures found in the most unlikely of places.

Old belt buckles, spools, keys and brooches are some of our favourites to work with and we were lucky to find some really interesting pieces today.  It's such a magical process and one that I'm very much an apprentice in, taking a fascinating old object and creating it into some beautiful and wearable.

I'm just adoring dreaming up ideas and learning a whole new set of skills in the art of jewellery design and creation.  Everything is so detailed, each component so vital to achieving the overall aesthetic and I'm very blessed that my mum is such a patient and inspiring mentor.

My favourite find today was this antique copper Egyptian style belt buckle, it's such a beautifully detailed piece and it's already cast it's magic upon us, setting in motion an exciting travel inspired collection.

What I love most about treasure hunting is you just never know what you might come across, amongst a bag of old buttons, or a box of vintage curtain rods.  You really do have to search for clues and delve into the unknown.  A perfect way to spend a day if you ask a pirate loving, vintage map admiring girl like myself.

What are you treasure hunting for at the moment?

Sneak Peek - Tales of the Sea

For as long as I can remember I've been enchanted by the ocean.  I spent my childhood weekends on the beach, first in Surfers Paradise and then in Cairns, fossicking for shells, playing amongst the waves and imagining what might be beyond the horizon. And it was something in that salt air and my vivid imagination that stirred within me, a love of the sea.. From the lost city of Atlantis, to beautiful mermaids, sirens and pirates... the sea cast its spell upon me many years ago.

So when I began dreaming of ideas for my first co-designed and created jewellery collection for Wilde Asher, all of these memories came flooding back, after spending the past five years away from the sea.  From the first time I found a perfect shell and saw a real ship wreck, to snorkelling with turtles and dreaming of becoming a mermaid.

Within the memories and the day dreams.. 'Tales of the Sea' was born. Inspired by vivid imaginings, found treasures, stories of old, the poetry of John Keats and the prose of James Joyce and the sea's most powerful spell of romance.

Here is a little sneak peek into Tales of the Sea..
Each piece is uniquely handmade in our studio and I'm so delighted that much of the collection will feature found objects and vintage treasures, including beautiful antique coins from a one hundred year old gypsy costume, given to me by a dear family friend.

Tales of the Sea will be launched in our online boutique in April and I can't wait to share more about our second winter collection soon too.

Much Love

PS. I must have been dreaming about this collection nearly twelve months ago.. I just remembered this post I wrote back last May. How fortuitous!

New Studio Love..

I was so delighted to see the sun shining this morning.. It filled me with inspiration and a wonderful burst of motivation to get stuck into organising our new Wilde Asher studio.  I was hoping to get some bits and pieces over the weekend but with the wild weather that wasn't a possibility, so I was pumped to get out today and pick up a cork board and a great set of drawers from Ikea to stash my craft supplies.  One I got home and began sorting, I was filled with ideas and couldn't wait to bring the first part of the studio together, which includes my desk and favourite inspiring treasures as well as the blog corner. I've finally got a window behind my desk, with a lovely garden view and outside is the perfect fence to hang few potted herbs to add to the scenery. I can feel another project waiting to happen.  Although I'm still working on finishing off a few details of this area I couldn't resist taking a few photos this afternoon.

Most of my treasures are have been thrifted over the years and a few pieces were given to me by my Nan.  The lovely ducks are by Delila Devine and the beautiful Johnson inspired embroidery was created by the super talented Laura.  Oh and the little sleepy owl is from Typo.

My favourite bits right now.. The canister of vintage wallpaper, the fabulous music stand my uncle thrifted for me and my new inspiration board, full of colour and fun!

I'm so excited about my new space and can't wait to start tackling the Wilde Asher side of the studio, organising a wonderful new collection of vintage pieces and getting back into work to  finishing designing my first jewellery collection.

I just love how inspiring a new space can be!

A Weekend with Asher..

This weekend we are taking our lovely caravan, Asher up to my in-laws property near Woodford so we can treat her to a little makeover.  It's been a long time dream to be able to sell my vintage wares out of a little caravan and after nearly twelve months and a long road trip to Queensland, Asher is finally getting a new look, just in time for the summer markets and festivals. Will be sure to share updates and photos from our road trip soon.

What are your plans this weekend? Have a wonderful time, whatever you are up to.

Much Love

PS. This week over on the Wilde Asher blog, I've been writing about treehouses, mixing patterns, Spring blossoms and our latest collection of vintage shirts.  I'd love you to pop by and check it out.

My Vintage Dream Comes True..

I've been a vintage lover since my days thrifting with my best friend in high school, finding crazy costumes for photoshoots and festivals.  At University, while studying fashion I began to dream of owning my very own vintage boutique, filled with pretty dresses, hats and handbags. My plan then was I would live upstairs from my imaginary little shop, so I could redecorate at midnight.  Fast forward eight years, a wedding, an interstate move and with a growing love for all things vintage, I began to spend my weekends searching for vintage fashion and homewares, slowing building my collection and filling my little cottage to the brim with delightful retro colours and patterns. In 2011, I took a leap of faith, finished up creating handmade accessories and decided to begin a new adventure to create an online vintage shop.  What was originally to be a little Etsy store, soon took on a life of its own and soon I had an amazing business partner, my mum Annie and fabulous art director and photographer, my sister Phoebe, by my side.  It was a beautiful moment to realise we could bring all our dreams and ideas together and for the last 18 months, we have been creating Wilde Asher.

Today, my vintage dream has come true.. Wilde Asher is officially open for business. It has been a long road, with many twists and turns along the way, but I'm so happy to finally have a little shop to call our own. I hope you love Wilde Asher as much as we do! We will be adding new vintage pieces each day and our gorgeous homewares collection will be available for purchase next week.

Thank you so much for all your support and lovely comments over the past week.  Coming back to this online community has been such a wonderful experience because you. You are such beautiful souls and I feel so blessed to be able to share my journey with you.  It truly does mean so much to me

So please do pop by and have a stroll around Wilde Asher, we'll have a virtual champagne waiting for you! Oh and be sure to pop over to our Wilde Asher blog too, I'm over there each day sharing inspiration and sneak peeks and I can't wait to start our summer DIY and fashion series in the next few weeks.

Meet Wilde Asher..

In 2008, Her Library Adventures began as a little corner of my world where I would occasionally share what I was making, baking or doing, so my family could catch up on my happenings when I moved interstate.  Fast forward to 2012 and so much has happened in between! It's quite surreal to think about how far my little blog has come since the early days and it always brings me joy to be able to sit down and share my thoughts and inspiration everyday.

So now as I endeavour into my next adventure, our online boutique Wilde Asher, I'm delighted to once again see Her Library Adventures move into a new phase, sharing more ideas about living a creative and visual life, with the help of two amazing and inspiring women.. My mum, Annie and my sister, Phoebe.

Annie is the co-owner and the soul of Wilde Asher. She is jewellery designer whose love of film, music and the arts, drives her creative endeavours. Annie brings her innate understanding of eclectic beauty to Wilde Asher, creating a unique harmony between our blended styles. Interior design is one of Annie's passions together with spending time in the kitchen creating beautiful food for family and friends. Annie has been working behind the scenes on Her Library Adventures throughout the year and I'm so excited that she will be contributing features on interior design, music and some inspiring recipes too.

Phoebe my gorgeous younger sister, is Wilde Asher's production manager, resident photographer and all round creative wonder.  Not only is her beautiful penmanship behind our Wilde Asher's logo, her inspiring art direction unifies our creative thinking.  Phoebe balances my girly, retro aesthetic with her boho/rock chic vibe and will be writing about style, healthy living and photography.

I'm so excited to now be calling Her Library Adventures our blog and along with my regular ramblings, thrifted finds and daily musings, I can't wait for Annie and Phoebe to share their inspiring ideas with you.

Here are a few behind the scenes snap shots from yesterday's photo shoot.  It's our first of three Wilde Asher photo shoots this week and features our Wild at Heart collection of vintage clothing and bespoke jewellery inspired by music from the 1970s and the beautiful songstress, Stevie Nicks.  We found the perfecspoto shoothe collection, with wild trees and a gorgeous little stream.  Our beautiful model Tessa and fabulous resident photographer Phoebe worked the camera as the sun seto bring our mystical collection to life.

Today we are shooting the lookbook for our Summer of Love collection.  Think bright colours, bold patterns, vintage records, open fields and plenty more daisies.    I can' t waito share all the lookbooks very soon as we puthe finishing touches on our online boutique in preparation for our upcoming launch.

Tonight at my place..

Tonight at my place.. Racks of vintage dresses fill the living and dining rooms as we listen to music from days gone by, inspiring our exciting new Wilde Asher collections.  As we reminisce, sing and dance, decide on dress names, take photos and write descriptions... I'm reminded just why I love all that is vintage.

And we are very excited indeed! The countdown is on!

A little Asher Update..

I just love long weekends.. especially this time of year, when the days are still long and the weather is just perfect to get plenty of work done on my lovely Asher.  She is still looking like her old self on the outside (although this will be changing soon) but on the inside, she's already looking like a whole new caravan.

I've ripped up almost all of the old discoloured lino and bought a few cork pieces of lino today to see how they fitted in.. I'm really happy with how they match the colour of the existing couch and chairs.

After finishing the lino ripping.. I began work on priming the laminate walls and cupboards ready to be painted.  It's amazing how much of a difference a single coat of paint makes to open up the space.  Now I can't wait to choose paint colours and matching wallpaper.

And although Asher is a little way off decorating, I couldn't resist adding one of my favourite thrifted crochet blankets to the couch and sitting down at the end of the day to enjoy the sunshine, admire my progress and write a exciting list of to dos to get Asher ready to hit the road very soon full of lovely Wilde Asher bits and pieces.
