Conscious Living - A Love List..

“When we try to pick something out by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe” - John Muir

List #007..
A collection of blog posts, articles, short films & links to inspire and invigorate a more conscious way of life.

It's nearing the middle of the year and it seems for so many, including me, it's a time when we often have our heads down, working through our to do lists, getting through the weeks. And sometimes it's hard to see through the busy and everyday happenings, to the inspiring and thought provoking.  So this is why, I love to create these lists, so that over the weekend, we can all find a moment to be invigorated again, to feel that creative energy deep within, nurture those ideas and go outside and reconnect with the earth beneath our feet.

The more we grow in our little patch, the more I begin to recognise, the profound connection we all have with the earth and our food . I found this essay a wonderful exploration into reclaiming the sacred in food and farming.

How beautiful is this farm and creative family.  I just adore natural dyeing and it's something I can't wait to do more of in the future.  This article just makes my heart sing.

Oh Milkwood, you've done it again.  Every time I visit the Milkwood blog I get inspired to go outside and get dirty. This article on making your own seed raising mixture is just fabulous.

In the midst of a hectic last few weeks, I've been missing my daily yoga practice.  I really enjoyed this article, about commitment to consistency and am very much look forward to getting back on the mat over the weekend.

Kirsten Rickert's world is just so enchanting.  Not only is she an talented creative, she's also the most gentle and inspiring soul.  I just adored this film she made with her gorgeous girls about helping save the bees. You can also find a divine in depth interview with Kirsten about her projects and life philosophy over at Spiral Elixir.

Tiny homes, I just can't get enough! While I don't think we'll ever live in anything this tiny, I love exploring homes like this one, as inspiration for ways I can better organised, refine and de-clutter our own little cottage. I especially love the open shelving!

And just because two tiny homes are better than one.. This gorgeous home, featured in a short film from The Design Files is sure to make you want to pack up and go tiny!

Have you seen this breathtaking short film? It's such a beautiful insight into how wolves are an essential part of natural eco-systems.

And speaking of  short films.. This is one if you are feeling unsure about the future generations of the planet. So inspiring to see vibrant young people changing the world.

I always love Belinda's articles on The Planthunter and have these lovely Australian native smudge sticks on the top of my to make list.

Also on my to make list.. Chai! It's certainly chai weather here. I'm still trying to recreate the perfect Confest chai blend, so I love trying out different recipes. This one from Matt & Lentil looks so tasty!

And I just love this collaboration.. She grows it, he cooks it. Some great vegetarian recipes!

Oh and another must make recipe this weekend.. The gorgeous Lunch Lady's Lemon Curd! Oh yes, I will make it happen.

After some weekend reading? I really enjoyed this article about the ever inspiring multi-disciplinary visionary, Joost Bakker.

If you're after a book, I can highly recommend the stunning A Table in the Orchard.  I don't want it to end!

Perhaps something to listen as well? Here are two great podcasts, from simple living, minimalist gurus, Joshua Becker and Erin Boyle.

And in case you missed it, here's what simple living means to me.

What have you been reading, watching and enjoying and been inspired by lately?

Wishing you a gorgeous weekend, with plenty of great meals, happy adventures & the perfect amount of dirt.

  1. Thank you Sophie for linking to the reclaiming the sacred article. So good! It's so relevant to where my thinking has been lately. That we need both science and spirituality to ensure sustainability. And that understanding, observation, wisdom and equity forever are what we should be valuing - not money. Thank you. have a lovely weekend x

  6. Thanks for all these links Sophie. I wrote a comment here on the weekend but my iPad wouldn't co-operate and I lost my comment. I checked out the link for A Table in the Orchard and read some of it. I was hooked. So yesterday I visited our local bookshop and was happy to find it. It made my day. Such a lovely read. Much love xo
