2013 - The Year that Was..

Never in my dreams could I have imagined how 2013 would unfold.  It has been a year of joy, celebration, love and discovery.  In the second week of January I found out I was pregnant with our little rainbow baby and each day since I have endeavoured to embrace each moment, cherish opportunities and revel in life's simple pleasures.  Here are a few of my favourite moments from 2013.
Welcoming our beautiful Tallow Frankie Bluebelle into the world
Enjoying a very special babymoon
Moving to a fabulous purple shack by the beach
Spending the day wandering Sydney with the most beautiful ladies, Pia, Steph, Jodi, Gaby and Luisa
Holding a pop up shop with some fabulous new friends
Getting my vignette skills on and meeting the ever inspiring Kara Roselund and Megan Morton
Being surrounded by so many of my favourite women for my very special baby shower
Watching the sunrise on the beach for my 29th birthday
Completing many of my thirty goals
Taking summer adventures to Byron Bay and Bangalow and discovering the amazing Killen Falls
Working with my mum and sister on our Wilde Asher adventure
Decorating Tallow's nursery
Spending time with wonderful family and friends

So now begins a whole new adventure in 2014, as I continue my motherhood journey, get creative with new designs and concepts for Wilde Asher, work on some exciting new projects and bring to life a very special goal. For me, 2014 is all about making dreams reality, nourishing the soul, creating new traditions and enjoying the beauty everyday.

Over the past two years I've created Thirty Fabulous Fun Goals to achieve over the year and I can't wait to share my goals for 2014 with you tomorrow. I love having a little list to look back over during the year and fun challenges to try. Are you making goals for the year? I'd love to hear about them, so I thought I'd create a little link up tomorrow so we could share our hopes and goals for the coming year. Feel free to pop by and join in!  Whether it be one goal or fifty, I thought it would be great to support one another's dreams for 2014.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing in my everyday.  I treasure every comment and email and feel so blessed to be part of this beautiful community. May your dreams for this amazing new year twirl like fireflies across the night sky and burst into a magical sunrise.

Much Love

Baking - Ginger Shortbread..

There is just something about festive baking I adore.. The smell of  sweet treats baking in the oven, brings back so many childhood memories and that lovely sense of delightful Christmas nostalgia.  When coupled with some fabulous old carols, it's my favourite way to spend a December afternoon. These days the family baking baton has now been passed over to me and while I'm still perfecting the art of the our traditional shortbread recipe (it's a tricky one to get just right), I thought I'd mix things up and also create a new festive biscuit this year.. the Ginger Shortbread, adapted from a Margret Fulton recipe. A simple shortbread dough with a few special extras inspired by gingerbread.  For me it's the perfect combination.

Ginger Shortbread
250g of butter
250g of plain flour
1/2 cup of caster sugar
4 tsp of ground ginger
2 tsp of cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla
(feel free to add more of less ginger, cinnamon and vanilla to suit your taste)
Preheat oven to 160°C and prepare biscuit tray with baking paper.
Cream together butter and sugar
Sift flour, ginger and cinnamon and work gently into butter mixture
Add vanilla and knead lightly
Roll out onto a lightly floured board
Cut to desired Christmas shapes (I just love snowflakes)
Bake in a 160°C oven until golden
Sprinkle with a little caster sugar while warm and enjoy
The perfect little Christmas delight to have on hand in the coming days and a sweet last minute homemade gift.
What have you been baking up this Christmas?

Crafty Project - Simple Christmas Wreath..

This year my Christmas decorating has been inspired by the beautiful native eucalypts and banksia trees in our garden.  With lush foliage and truly Australian colours, I've delighted in adding branches to vases and sprinkling nuts and flowers around our home for the festive season.  A lovely and easy way I've found to decorate with these charming natives is in the shape of a simple Christmas wreath.
Gather some lovely branches.. Look for interesting foliage, nuts and flowers.
Using some twine, gather braches together one at a time and tie to form a circular shape.  Let the branches guide the shape of the wreath and don't worry if it's not perfect, the beauty is in the raw and natural flow of the leaves.
Once your happy with the shape, cut off any extra twine, hang  and enjoy.
I just love how simple and effective this wreath is, especially in when there is so much to do in the lead up to Christmas. And the true beauty of a wreath like this is, the leaves dry beautifully so you can use it for decorating all year round.
What are you enjoying decorating with this festive season?

December Seven Vignettes..

I've always loved the playfulness and childlike delight that comes with Christmas. It seems everything becomes that little bit more magical and sweet and Seven Vignettes with month was no exception.  I thought it might be fun to put a little twist on my vignettes this month and create a little Christmas story for Tallow featuring Minty and Monty, the festive mice. So here is.. A Christmas Tale.
Day 1 - Giving. "The season of giving now has begun. Monty and Minty are here to join the fun".
Day 2 - Twinkle.  "With Mrs. Owl's help they trimmed the tree. It sparkled and twinkled for all to see."
Day 3 - Summer. "When the tree was complete they went down to the sea. It was Summer after all and the beach was the place to be."

Day 4 - Cheer. "Minty and Monty were so excited the holiday season was here. They invited the Easter chicks over to celebrate in the joy and Christmas cheer."
Day 5 - Red & Green. "But Minty and Monty couldn't party all day. There were presents to wrap without delay. First was Grandma's, as pretty as could be, a red and green poinsettia, to go under the Christmas tree."

Day 6 - Jolt of Colour. "After the presents were wrapped, Monty and Minty had Saturday free. So they took a quick trip to Byron Bay in their colourful Kombi."

Day 7 - Feast. "After weeks of preparing, it was finally Christmas Day. The night before Minty was sure she had heard Santa's sleigh. They gave presents, sang carols and last but not least, Monty and Minty celebrated with a cheese filled feast."
"Thank you for sharing in the fun and cheer, of Minty and Monty's Christmas tale this year. Merry Christmas!"
I had so much fun creating these vignettes, especially when I realised our Kombi money box was the perfect size for Minty and Monty. I think I might even put them together into a little story book for Tallow to keep.
I have really loved being a part of seven vignettes throughout the year and can't wait for more creative fun in 2014.  I'm always so inspired by people's amazing creations and every month I find it a wonderful creative outlet.  If your feeling like a creative challenge in 2014, I certainly suggest joining the vignette action.

Tallow: Hanging out in the garden with Daddy - Her favourite place to be.
This week as usual I'd taken quite a few photos of Tallow on my camera, but this candid moment captured on my phone, one warm afternoon in the garden won out.  I just love watching these two together.  There is something so special about the love and protection of those strong hands and that cheeky smile.

Fab Fun Goals Update..

It's hard to believe it's nearly the end of the year and with these last few weeks, comes those moments of refection, a gentle pause and reminder of the year that has been.  On the first day of 2013, I wrote myself a fun goals list and to be honest over the past few months, I'd almost completely forgotten about it.  It seems my ideas of learning to play the ukulele and fire twirling gave way to 3am feeds and tummy time.  But hey, that's the beauty of a goals list right, there's always next year and the year after that.  When I did look back on my list, it seems I have actually achieved more of my goals than I had originally thought.  So here are a few things I've ticked off...
Learn some more hooping tricks - Ok so this is more of a dust off the hoops and get back into hooping, since it was a bit tricky to work on tricks with a baby bump throughout the year.  I've started playing around with my hoops again this week and I'm loving it!
Hold a pop up shop - I just loved putting together my very first little pop up shop for the Vintage Treasure Hunt and can't wait to do it more in the future.
Fire up my sewing machine - Finally after being boxed up for nearly six months in storage, I dusted off my sewing machine to make some little birds and bunting for Tallow's room.  Next up, a softie or two!
Buy local, organic and home grown produce - We are so lucky to live in an area with amazing fresh produce and local markets.  We are never short of a locally grown pineapple or punnet of strawberries and we are also working hard on our own little veggie garden too.

Bake my own bread - Yay, we successfully made bread! My next goal is to try out different varieties and get baking more regularly. One day I'll get really adventurous and even try to bake sourdough.

Take long walks and photograph the details - Since moving to the Sunshine Coast, we've enjoyed so many beautiful beach walks. Even the wander to the beach is lovely, especially this time of year when the Poincianas are in bloom.

With only a few weeks of the year left, I'm hoping to tick one or two more off my list.  Perhaps Santa might even bring me a ukulele for Christmas.

Did you make any goals this year?
How did you go ticking off your list?

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013.

Tallow: Learning new tricks every day.  My favourite, the nose scrunching and lip smacking.
Tallow also gave us quite a scare over on Sunday, when she began having difficulty breathing.  After an ambulance ride and an overnight stay in hospital for observation, she's healthy, happy and back to her usual cheeky self. Seems that a bit of reflux and a snuffy nose don't mix well for a ten week old.  Needless to say it's been a very long few days and we are so happy to be home and having lots of extra cuddles with our precious little girl.
