Home is Wherever I'm with You - Maternity Photos Part Two

For the second part of our impromptu maternity photo shoot a few weekends ago, we headed up into Noosa Valley to a little spot in the rainforest.  We both grew up amongst this beautiful diverse landscape and missed it dearly whilst we were living in Mildura. So it seemed perfect to balance our time on the beach with a little wander through a magical rainforest stream.

My gorgeous and talented sister Phoebe captured these precious moments for us. Pop over to Phoebe's portfolio to see more of her work and check out part one of our maternity shoot here

Happy Friday!

My World in August..

August.. A month full of emotion, reflection, love and hope.  As the days grow longer, I become more settled, our nest almost ready, all colourful and feathered with love.  The warm afternoons provide a lovely time for making, reading, daydreaming and nanna naps, as we countdown the final few weeks until we meet our precious little one.

Weather: August truly has been the most blissful early start to Spring.  Every day another amazing blue sky and irresistible sunset, just yearning to be photographed.  The perfect kind of weather for walks along the beach and the first of many dips in the pool (oh how wonderful it feels to just float around for a while).

Writing: Although I was attempting to curb my list writing behaviour, I am making a few last minute to do lists before next month.  I'm also finding myself journalling much more than I have been this year, working through the beautiful and often challenging emotions that arise before the beginning of a new journey.

Making:  August has been all about the nursery.  It's been a little haven for me to play, decorate and dream in.  There's been bunting made, swaddles tie dyed, little birds and squishy alphabet cubes sewn, and a blanket finally coming together, hopefully just in time.  I'm loving spending time on simple creations and being inspired by my newly collaged studio space.

Baking: This month I've been trying a few different recipes and found a whole new love for quiche, inspired by the gorgeous Rachel Khoo. My favourite bake for the month was these lovely little biscuits and I have a feeling I'll be making some more dough very soon to stash away for the coming months.

Reading: Currently my bedside table looks a little like the parenting section of my local bookshop.  I'm enjoying pottering my way through, finding inspiring bits and pieces that resonate.  I'm also enjoying the beautiful and honest, The Divided Heart: Art and Motherhood, which Pia recently instagrammed.  Such a profound book that resonates on so many levels.  For a bit of light reading, it's hard to go past the current issue of Frankie (that cover is just the sweetest).

Daydreaming About: Right now I'm in the love bubble.. and all the beautiful sunshine, slow days, lovely tunes have me daydreaming about the Summer days ahead and adventures with my little family. I've also been full of inspiration for our summer Wilde Asher jewellery collection and a few other exciting long term projects.   All these lovely pregnancy hormones are doing wonders for my creativity.
Planting & Harvesting:  There's flowers on our citrus trees, beans sprouting, strawberries bursting to life and even a little capsicum growing.  Ben and I have a little running joke that we seem to grow everything in miniature, but I'm hoping that we'll have a wee bounty to harvest soon.  There's also an abundance of seeds to be planted, just in time for Spring.

Inspired By: So much has been inspiring me lately.  Beautiful people I've been meeting,  thoughtful blog posts, nourishing yoga classes, discovering quirky nooks and cafes, gorgeous handmade textiles, bright colours (I'm loving creating a little rainbow home), planning a summer getaway in our little caravan and dreaming about meeting our little adventurer.

Special moments to come: After eight months of patiently waiting, finally September is just around the corner.  September has always been my favourite month and this year, it's oh so much more beautiful and exciting.  We've got Father's Day, our 7th wedding anniversary and Ben's birthday to celebrate and  somewhere in between, the arrival of our little miracle. I can't wait to embrace every precious moment of this very special Spring.

Thank you for sharing in the little moments from my August.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Our Precious Cargo..

The countdown is on, the bags are packed, the lists have been double checked and we just can't wait to meet our most precious cargo. The last few months seem to have passed by so quickly and with September just around the corner, all of a sudden the months have now become a matter of weeks.  As we write our birth preferences, finishing last minute projects around our nest and find ourselves chatting about birth books before bed, we know our little adventurer isn't too far away.

Over the past few weekends we have been busily preparing for our new arrival, visiting baby stores, thrift shops and markets looking for the finishing touches to the nursery and making sure everything is ready to go.  We've been so lucky to be able to drive the fabulous Ford Focus Titanium around the Sunshine Coast thanks to Ford and Kidspot* and we couldn't have asked for any better weather to enjoy this special time together.  With the sunroof open and the sea breeze gently blowing, we have driven many a trip down the Sunshine Motorway playing our little adventurer some of our favourite tunes and chatting excitedly about the coming weeks and months.

Creating the nursery has been one of my very favourite projects and each day as I potter around, finding the perfect spots for the special bits and pieces we've lovingly found and collected over the years, it's quickly becoming my favourite room in our home.  I can't wait to take you on a room tour soon!

While many of the pieces in the nursery are second hand, including the change table and vintage chair, we knew we wanted to purchase a new cot.  Only there was one little problem.. it seemed everyone else wanted the same one we did. We'd been really lucky with our pram and car seat which we were able to pick up straight away, so we thought the same would apply with the cot. Not quite.. and with an eight week wait, we needed a plan B.  Thanks to Ben's patience, some sweet shop assistants and a little running around (thank goodness for the Ford's super comfortable seats and lovely air conditioning), we found the perfect cot at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon.  As we drove to pick it up, I spent the whole trip wondering how on earth we were going to fit the cot and mattress in the back of car and as Ben was lifting it in, I said a little prayer or two (this mumma really wanted to get the cot set up before the weekend was over).  I turned around and sure enough, with inches to spare, the cot box lay perfectly in the boot as if made to measure.  Hooray for small cars with amazing storage space!

So the cot is set up, the change table freshly painted and the onesies washed and ready.. we've even taken the pram for a test drive.

Yes indeed, I think it's safe to say, I'm a bundle of excitement, with a touch of nerves thrown in for good measure.  This little adventurer of ours truly is a miracle in our lives and no words can ever really describe how blessed we are to be given this opportunity so soon.  We are loving every moment, in awe of every little kick and hiccup and ready to embark on this new stage of our lives with our very precious cargo.

Much Love

*Thanks to Ford and Kidspot I'm delighted to be taking part in the Voices of 2013 - Ford Choose Your Own Adventure Challenge. The Quiet Moments..

As the weekend draws upon us once more, I find myself in a beautiful place of waiting.  It's so peaceful, this time in between.. Knowing life is about to change forever and simply sitting back and soaking up all the beauty of right now.  I find myself drawing inwards, listening ever more carefully to my body, noticing life's little details.. quietly preparing.

As our little adventurer dances in my belly, I practise my breathing techniques and embrace the beautiful sounds of Sacred Earth.  The sky is the bluest I've ever seen and the ocean is calling to nurture my soul. The days move gently as we take time to potter around the markets and thrift shops and enjoy the quiet moments together.  The afternoon brings with it a nourishing yoga class and a wander along the beach, time to focus, reflect and connect.
 Life is magical..

Wishing you a most blissful weekend.

Home is Wherever I'm with You - Maternity Photos Part One..

Over the past two weekends my gorgeous sister has been up from Brisbane for a visit, which has been the perfect opportunity for a fabulous catch up, to enjoy the amazing weather and embark on a few impromptu maternity photos.  As Ben is usually  behind the camera, it was so nice to have some photos of this precious time together in one of our favourite spots, down at our local beach.  The first summer we met, nearly ten years ago, we spent nearly every free day together at the beach, so it seemed just perfect to enjoy the beautiful early morning sunshine, some favourite tunes and capture a few very special moments.

Look forward to sharing Part Two with you next week.
Much Love

Baking Adventures - White Chocolate & Macadamia Biscuits..

Recently I've noticed that the art of nesting and nostalgia go hand in hand.  As I potter around my little nest, cleaning, rearranging and feathering along the way, I dream about the days ahead with our little adventurer and reminisce on my own childhood memories.  I find myself recalling the weekends of building cubby houses with my sister, eagerly exploring the my favourite little fairy shop on the way to the farmer's markets and opening the door to my grandparents apartment and racing to the kitchen to see what my Nan had baking in the oven.

It seems that of late a little fire has been ignited in my heart for the domestic arts, thanks in part to this fabulous book and also because my Nan recently gifted me with her amazing collection of handwritten recipes and well loved cookbooks.  In turn my inner domestic goddess is now on the search for new crafts to learn and recipes to try.

Although I've never been the most confident of bakers (I sit and watch the oven like a hawk), this year I really wanted to master a few great recipes to have on hand to bake for family and friends and to build my confidence in the kitchen. Mother's Day gave me a wonderful excuse to try out a few sweet delights, but there have been a few staples still on my to bake list. One of those recipes was a good butter biscuit.

Inspired by my grandmother's Burnt Butter Biscuits, Nigella's old faithful butter biscuit recipe and Tabitha's  great flavour combination, here is my take on the humble butter biscuit, perfect to whip up for a morning tea with friends.

White Chocolate & Macadamia Biscuits
290g of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
90g of almond meal
150g of unsalted butter
150g of sugar
1 large egg
A good handful of macadamia nuts (crushed)
A good handful of white chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 180°C and prepare biscuit tray with baking paper.
Cream butter and sugar together then beat in egg and vanilla.
Add in dry ingredients, mixing gently then stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Your mixture should be a lovely dough like consistency.  If you have time (and patience) wrap dough in cling film and place in fridge to rest for about an hour or so.  If not..
Make dough into little biscuit size balls, place on prepared tray and gently flatten with a fork.
Bake for 9 - 12 minutes or until lightly golden around edges (you may need to bake in two batches).
Allow to cool for a long as you can be prepared to wait and enjoy with your favourite cup of tea and good conversation.

Notes: This recipe is so wonderful because you can substitute the chocolate and nuts for whatever you like.  Get creative! The dough also freezes really well, so it's great to have on hand in case of a baking emergency.   And a word of warning... one is never quite enough!

What have you been baking lately?
Much Love

Maternity Restyle - 34 Weeks..

Dress (worn as skirt): Target (2012) Blouse: Little Tienda
Shoes: Dotti Sunglasses: Sportsgirl

I'll tell you a little secret, I just love Spring.. perhaps more than any other season. The flowers, sunshine and perfect afternoons for pottering and napping.  It's my idea of perfection.  And to my delight Spring seems to have made it's way to Queensland a whole month earlier than I expected.  My boots and scarves have been packed away and I'm reveling in wearing flowy dresses and blouses especially as I count down the weeks until our little adventurer's arrival.

As soon as the days began warming up, I really started to miss wearing skirts, no matter how I tried (above or below my ever growing bump) nothing seemed to work on my 5ft frame. So my solution, a little restyling. My favourite jersey dress has now become the perfect everyday skirt, especially when teamed with this Little Tienda treasure. Yes indeed, I'm in love and I can see this blouse getting quite a workout this summer!

Hooray for sunshiny days and Spring babies!
