Weekend DIY.. Cute Cardigan Collar

With Easter fast approaching we know everyone is busy and looking for something lovely to wear to catch up with family and friends over the long weekend.  So Sarah and I thought it would be fun to show you how to cute up your favourite cardigan with a sweet collar in two easy steps, using a couple of doilies. Here's how we did it..

What You'll Need: A cardigan with a round neckline (Sarah thrifted this one), two small doily that will fit on either side of the neckline, scissors and a needle and thread.  Optional: You can add some ribbon or lace on the cuffs or down the front for an extra bit of flair.

Step One: Line up the doilies so that that the patterns match on each side of the cardigan, pin if necessary and then hand sew in place, working your way across the top of the doily.

Step 2. Once you have sewn down the front, turn the doily over and add a few small stitches on the back to hold the doily down. Press into place if necessary and you are done!

Ta Da! Now you have a super cute collar on your favourite cardigan.  Try using doilies of different thicknesses and sizes or even dye them to match your cardigan.  Just add a cute dress, necklace and some sweet ballet flats for a lovely Easter outfit.

Happy Creating!

School's Out..

It's the end of the of term one.. which means two weeks of holidays, hooray! It's been a fun and busy start to the year, so I'm really looking forward to a few weeks to catch my breath and work on some exciting projects, especially, Miss Asher who is just waiting for her next coat of paint.

So what does one do to celebrate the last day of school... craft of course!  Feeling super inspired Sarah and I ventured to our local craft store in search of Spring colours and trims to make some Easter treats.

Then of course we just had to put our new purchases to good use, so we popped in to see Annie and Shell at Fine and Sunny and got creative with our stash of lovely Spring colours.  Pop by over the week to see what Easter delights we've been making.

Hope you are having a wonderful Friday!

Love Her Style.. Love Elycia

Happy Friday! Today I'm delighted to be interviewing the fabulous Elycia from Love Elycia.  I just adore Elycia's super fun and playful style, her fantastic use of colour and cute accessories, the fact that she's not afraid to make up her own fashion rules and her amazing collection of bright tights.

Describe your style:  I have a hard time describing my style. I would have to say that it is vintage inspired with lots of colour. I like to have fun with my clothes and I usually wind up with perfectly silly outfits that I feel are just the right amount of crazy (for me).

What and who inspires your style?  The thing that inspires my style the most is colour and/or colour combinations. Sometimes I will base an entire outfit around a certain colour that I feel like wearing. I like to choose a starting point and add things until my outfit feels complete. As far as the who, I love to browse blogs but I can't say that one person inspires me more than others. I will just see random things from different people that spark ideas.

Has your style changed over the years?  My style has definitely evolved and changed over the years but I have always enjoyed colour and putting together outfits that feel fun to me. That being said, I do still have some items in my closet that I thrifted in high school!

Where do you like shopping for clothes and accessories? I love thrifting and vintage shopping to find clothes and accessories. I like the idea of treasure hunting to find interesting pieces and then figuring out how I can make them work for myself. If I am buying something new I basically shop exclusively online at sites like ModCloth.
What’s your favourite second hand fashion find? My favourite second hand find is this floral dress that I thrifted a few years back. I love the shape, the weight of the fabric, the colours and the fact that I'm pretty sure that someone made it! Plus it is one of Ivan's favourites so that is a bonus.

What’s your all time favourite item in your wardrobe? My favourite item of clothing is probably this vintage dress that I bought on Etsy from The Paraders. Once again I am crazy about the shape, weight of the fabric and the colours. Monochromatic colour schemes are one of the best things ever in my books!
Three words that sum up your style: Colourful, Silly, Fun
~~~
Be sure to pop over to Elycia's blog and check out more of her fabulous outfit posts and super fun vlogs.  She's certainly helped to inspire my new found love for bold tights!
Anatomy of my Bag..
I'm always fascinated by What's in Your Bag blog posts and it's over seven months since my last one so I thought it would be fun to see how much has changed.  I love tote bags and I know I always carry too much with me, but as soon as I leave something out, I seem to need it.  So, I'm trying out a new handbag system, which  I thought might help me find everything in my often over sized tote bags.
 Here's how it works.. I have a large tote bag, which is perfect to fit in my A4 planner, work files and thrift finds.  Inside I have two smaller clutch purses, one for all my crafty bits and pieces and the other as a purse of sorts.  My theory is that if I need to just dash out I just need to grab my small clutch purse rather than lugging my whole tote bag.  It seems to be working so far,  but I'm already filling up all the extra space very quickly.  See for yourself...
In my Tote Bag
12 Month Planner
Car keys, work keys and iPhone
Two pairs of sunglasses
Blank notebook and pink notepad
Red Velvet Clutch purse
Portmans Clutch purse
New MT Tape and three bobby pins
In my Red Velvet Clutch Purse
Three pens, a crochet hook and a pencil
A pair of scissors, a pencil, sharpener and a book of postage stamps
My daily notebook
Chanel lip gloss and lip balm
Measuring tape and bits of vintage ephemera
In my Portmans Clutch Purse
Cards, cash, coins and my hairdresser's business card
Another pen and a flower from this DIY that didn't quite make the final cut
A button and two bobby pins
Little thoughts notebook and a bunch of receipts
DIY brochure and a Red Cross swing tag
So all up that was three bags, four notebooks, four pens, five bobby pins and lots of random things.  I've been working on my new bag system for a few weeks and it could use some refining but I'm liking it for something a little bit different. And I'm never short of something to write on. Of course I'm still working on a way to easily find my keys and phone.  How do you organise your bag? I'd love to hear your tips!
Feel free to play along and take a photo of your handbag!
Leave a comment and let me know so I can check it out.
Midweek Thrifting..
After a busy week last week and no time to thrift on over the weekend, I was delighted to spend an hour wandering around my favourite thrift shops and catching up with Sarah to find some super fun treasures.
Oh I love finding vintage sheets and for me this set are just perfection!
I was so excited when Sarah spotted this pair of vintage high waisted jeans for me, just days after we had talked about how much I wanted a pair.
Tuesday was a very textile related thrift adventure.. I also picked up these sweet retro napkins and a fun tablecloth.
And I find it hard to resist anything orange, so this thermos and jug just had to come home with me.
Have you been thrifting this week yet? I hope you have some amazing adventures!
PS. Yesterday I also found the sweet purse and necklace for my Vintage Easter Giveaway.  Pop over here to check them out and just leave a comment on the giveaway post to enter.
Time for Tea..
It seems to be one of those days.. When you have lots of wonderful ideas that don't quite fall into place like you thought they would.  My computer decided  to be have a little morning tea break, at a rather inconvenient time. It appears to be working again now, which is fabulous indeed, because I will be back later this afternoon with a lovely Easter Giveaway which includes a few of my recent vintage finds.  So be sure to pop back by later on and in the meant time I thought I'd share a few lovely things that are making my day brighter.
Hope you're having a wonderful day!
What I Wore.. Delightful Tights
 Dress: Vintage-Thrifted  Tights: Gift from a friend
Shoes: Rivers Belt: Kmart  Brooch: Vintage
Sunglasses: Wilde Asher (coming soon) Bracelets: Thrifted
I found this dress on a thrifting adventure a few weeks ago and fell in love with the pattern immediately.  I love the shade of red and the splashes of yellow, purple and blue... Ordinarily I would have thrown on a pair of black ballet flats to go grocery shopping yesterday afternoon, but it was Sunday and the perfect opportunity to play dress ups.  A lovely friend sent me this fab pair of mustard tights last year and it’s been too warm to wear them until now.  One of my goals for this year is to wear bright tights, so I can now officially tick it off my list.  And what does one wear on their feet with mustard tights, wonderful blue heels of course.  It always amazes me just how lady-like a pair of heels make me feel and although I did get quite a strange looks in the supermarket, I’m officially in love with bright tights.  Now to decide on what colour to try next!
Happy Monday!
Flea Market Finds..
Happy Sunday my thrifting friends!  I do hope your weekend has been delightful and filled with some wonderful finds indeed.  Thanks so much for playing along last week, there were some amazing finds, I just loving popping by to see what you've discovered.  You can see everyone's finds just over here.
This week I had some lovely finds, some sweet dresses and a couple of gems that I was delighted to stumble across.
I'm totally smitten with this ripple pattern crochet blanket.  The colours are so pretty and it will make the perfect addition to our bedroom.
One of my fun finds this week was this Chinese retro Monoploy board.  It's got all the pieces and I just love the colours and typeography. I also scored the sheet underneath, it's one of the sweetest I've ever found.
And I was super excited to find a Sara Moon mirror at the tip shop.  I've been searching for a Sara Moon piece for years and I just love the gorgeous whimsical image.
I'd love to know what you found this week. To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along. Remember you can play any time during the week! Weekend DIY.. Nautical Cuff
After Sarah's inspiring weekend in Melbourne, she came back with some fabulous DIY ideas for the coming season.  This week's DIY has a seafaring flavour, inspired by our love for all things 'piratical'.  We thought it would be fun to make some jewellery fit for any swashbuckling sea sea dog.
What You'll Need:  An selection of braids and trims, a length of binding, a snap fastener, a hammer, scissors and some craft glue.  *You will also need either a needle and thread or a sewing machine.
1 & 2. Select your trims and plait main colours together.
3 & 4. Measure around wrist and cut to required length. Wrap gold thread around or through main plait.
5 & 6.  Cut two, 2 inch pieces of binding, iron down a small hem and sew into place.
7 & 8. Add snap fastener to each piece of binding as per instructions on packet.
9 & 10.  Glue plait into binding with craft glue and fold binding in half so raw edges are covered. Once glue is dry, sew around edges of binding to secure.
Ta Da! Now you have a nautical cuff that would be the envy of even Captain Jack Sparrow.
Wear it with your favourite red accessories and add a anchor charm or two, to create a look that is sure to put the wind in your sails.
Happy Creating!
Gathering Autumn Blankets..
As Autumn sets in I just love to feather my nest with lovely rugs and blankets.  Tonight has been the perfect evening to gather my collection of thrifted vintage crochet blankets together ready to be scattered around the house.  I found a lovely rainbow striped blanket yesterday whilst on a thrifting adventure and I can't share the beautiful colours with you on Sunday.  In the meantime, you can see it peeking out amongst my rainbow collection I've been working on throughout the year.
Some of my favourites.. I love how all the colours blend together as if their makers all used the same yarn..
The pretty rainbow details..
How do you like to feather your nest ready for a new season?
Hope you are having a lovely Friday!
