What I Wore.. Weekend Adventures

Top: Karl Lagerfeld for Macy's   Skirt: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted  Shoes: Thrifted   Bangles: Thrifted
  Flower: From the garden

I always love 'playing dress ups' on the weekend.  It's the perfect opportunity to try out quirky thrifted pieces and enjoy an adventure  or two.  This top was my favourite purchases from Macy's and has become a staple in my Spring wardrobe.  On Saturday I thought I'd pair it with this 1980s thrifted skirt and my favourite thrifted red shoes, for a fun Spring look.

Happy a wonderful Monday! I can't wait to see everyone's fabulous Halloween costumes.

I do hope you weekend has been delightful and filled with Halloween festivities, and of course a little thrifting.  Thanks so much for playing along last week, it was one of the biggest weeks ever! You can check out all the finds right over here.  And I hope you are out searching for that ultimate find of the year, it's happening next weekend, so stay tuned this week for more details of how you can enter.

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely little thrifty outing.  I found a few sweet little skirts and dresses and also these lovely bits and pieces.

I'm loving this retro carry on luggage and I was lucky enough to stumble across another Polariod camera to add to my growing collection.  My favourite find for the week is this sweet deer.  He is certainly right at home with my woodland creature clan.

I'd love to know what you found this week.  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along.  Remember you can play any time during the week! Halloween Fireplace..

After recently painting the fireplace, I thought it would be fun to decorate for Halloween.  It's not really a tradition celebrated in Australia, but there is just something about the vibe of the holiday I find fascinating.  Besides the odd plastic pumpkin and witch's hat, there isn't much in the way of decorating supplies, so I used pieces I already had around the house and a few new bits to create an eclectic Halloween inspired fireplace.

I went with a black and white theme, creating a few cluster vignettes on the mantel piece.  And I just couldn't resist this plastic owl from the gardening section of the local cheap shop, the perfect spooky addition to the fireplace.

The first cluster I made using these chess pieces from ceramic chess pieces from Spotlight.  They reminded me a little bit of Harry Potter, so I just had to use them.  I added in a black baroque pattern vase, a few old books and a pair of vintage silver goblets to finish my Hogwarts inspired corner.

My second vignette is a homage to Victorian Gothic literature, inspired by The Raven.  I had all these pieces around the house, so it was just a matter of finding a nice balance.  This is one of my favourite old photos I found amongst a stack of postcards, the gentleman in the picture fascinates me and added a perfect spooky feel.

It's certainly not traditional Halloween decorating, but it was fun to think outside the box and create a space inspired by some of my favourite pieces of fantastical literature.

Happy Halloween Weekend..

My goodness the day has flown by quickly! I hope you are having a lovely start to the weekend.  We have certainly had a wonderfully busy day, thrifting up a storm, before a stop off at Fine and Sunny for coffee and a chat.  Then we went on to search for some bits and pieces to decorate for Halloween.  Now we are enjoying a relaxing afternoon, putting the finishing touched on the Halloween inspired fire place and listening to some lovely tunes. I'm lucky enough to have a four day weekend and I'm certainly looking forward to making the most of every minute, with lots of creative projects planned. What are your plans this Halloween weekend?  Here are some of my favourite links from the week for you to enjoy.

NYC - Favourite 'Film and TV' Moments..

While walking through the streets of New York City it's hard to not feel like you are in a film.  Around every corner, you find something wonderfully familiar, a fountain, a park and front door that you feel you somehow know.  I must say, I got very excited after stumbling across some of my favourite film and TV locations.

Being a Carrie Bradshaw fan, I just had to stop off at Perry Street for a photo outside her famous apartment.

And a film my sister and I both love is Serendipity, so it was very exciting to find the gorgeous little cafe from the movie.

We also loved..
Sitting on the steps of the MET.. Gossip Girl style, wandering through Central Park and checking out the Boat House and of course stopping outside Tiffany's.

What film or TV show location would you love to visit?

Happiness.. The Humble Bookshelf

Bookshelves make me so very happy.  They instantly make any home so warm, inviting and beautifully lived in.  Of course the beauty of the humble bookshelf is you can combine your favourite paper backs with your most loved treasures to create vignettes of inspired by your adventures, family and travels.  The trick is to play with proportions, colour and angles and with the addition of a few quirky bits and pieces, your bookshelf can become a talking piece for any room.  I found these gorgeous bookshelves in a wonderful collection over at Lonny Magazine.  Pop over here to check out all their inspiring room by room collections.

Staying Creative..

It has been a very busy few weeks in between finishing Uni for the semester and preparing my Year 12 students for exams and moments of creativity have been few and far between.  So I thought I'd post this fabulous list, open a new notebook, take a deep breath and look forward to the long weekend ahead when I can reconnect with my little creative soul.

What keeps you inspired?

What I Wore.. By the River

Dress: Vintage - From Retro Metro   Hat: Equip
Belt: Sportsgirl   Shoes: Forever 21   Bangles: Thrifted
  Sunglasses: Vintage - Foster Grant

When I got home from Brisbane yesterday my plans were to curl up on the couch with my new book and take an adventure to the circus.  But after stepping outside, I realised there was just no way I could let such a beautiful day pass me by.. So, inspired by the gorgeous hues of Picnic at Hanging Rock, I thought I'd give Friday's vintage purchase an Spring outing down to the majestic Murray.   I just love this dress and I have a feeling it will have many more outings over Summer.  While I'm confessing new loves, I was so excited to find these wedges at the amazing Forever 21store in Soho.  They were the last pair and they make me very happy (and much taller!)  Sunday really was the perfect afternoon to sit by the river and watch the world go by.

Film Inspiration - Stealing Beauty

Stealing Beauty is one of my very favourite films.  I remember watching it for the first time one Summer when I was about fourteen and it was one of those moments that redefined my whole world.  To this day, the Stealing Beauty soundtrack is one of my favourite albums to play of an evening and composition notebooks are my favourite place to scribble little poems.

Check out Grace's gorgeous post over at Design*Sponge for more Stealing Beauty inspiration and listen to my favourite song from the film here.

NYC - Shop Windows..

One of the first things I noticed walking through Manhattan were the incredible shop windows.  I found myself stopping every few metres to take in the incredible details and beautiful artworks through every window, especially in Soho and the Upper East Side.  I took a few snap shots when I could and here are some of my favourites.

Henri Bendel - 5th Ave

Mulberry - Greenwich Village

Anthropologie - Rollefeller Center

Seriously, inspiration overload! Beautiful window displays always delight me and  make my dreams of one day having a little shop of my very own all the more wonderfully exciting.

Happy Wednesday!

NYC Vintage - Chelsea Antiques Garage

The first treasure hunt I went on in New York was to the Chelsea Antiques Garage.  It was right around the corner from our hotel and I couldn't wait to get there.  Even before we made it inside I found a crazy little market across the road where I found these lovely brooches.  After such a great find I wasn't really sure what to expect inside but needless to say.. it was just like a vintage dream world.

Around every corner was something wonderful.  I wasn't even sure quite where to begin and had to be very good given I couldn't bring very much home in my suitcase.  But that didn't stop me eyeing off every lovely typewriter and camera I saw.

There was even a TV show being filmed while we were there, only in New York I suppose.  So what did I end up bringing home with me?  Well, as a wandered past a beautiful rack of vintage coats I noticed one little green jacket in particular.

When I picked it up I realised it was vintage Chistian Dior and couldn't quite believe my eyes.  Of course, I had to try it on it and luckily, it was a perfect fit.  The beautiful owner of the stall gave it to me for a wonderful price and I'm so excited to now have my own little designer piece all the way from the Chelsea Antiques Garage.

If you are in NYC, be sure to stop by this wonderful treasure trove of vintage delights and quirky characters.

Side Show Alley..

Each year around this time, the local show comes to town.  There is just something about country fairs that makes me smile.  I'm not sure what it is, perhaps the mix of pretty fairy floss colours, crazy stalls, bright lights and the smell of hot donuts, yum! On Saturday evening my hubby and I strolled down the road to check it out.  Yes, we live that close to the show ground I could here the girls squealing on the rides from my living room.  I've always loved the atmosphere of side show alley, even though as a kid I was quite terrified of the Ghost Train.  There is something quite magical about all those pretty lights and I had so much fun capturing it all from the Ferris Wheel as the sun set.

What I Wore.. Spring Weekend

Dress: H&M   Tights: K-Mart
Belt: Thrifted   Shoes: Converse
  Sunglasses: Vintage - Foster Grant

The weekend weather was so perfect for Spring attire, I couldn't wait to try out my new H&M dress.  I had forgotten how much fun H&M was until we wandered past one on our first day in New York, just a block from our hotel.  Needless to say, I spent quite a bit of time there.  I love the little orange flowers on the dress and I couldn't resist pairing it with my favourite pair of orange Converse sneakers, perfect for our Saturday thrifting adventures.  And what Spring day would be complete without a pair vintage sunglasses.  I was super lucky to find this pair of 1970s Foster Grant sunglasses at the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market and they are my definitely my new favourite Spring accessory.

Happy Monday!

Flea Market Finds..

Happy Sunday my beautiful thrifting friends.  I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.  It is certainly thrifting season, make sure you get out and about and check out the Halloween costume racks for some guaranteed vintage gold.  A big thank you for playing along last week and a warm welcome to all our new thrifty friends.  It's so lovely to have you joining in the fun! Pop over here to see all of last week's treasures.

I had such a lovely time thrifting this week.  It felt like months since I'd visited my favourite local thrift stores and I was so lucky that some lovely bits and pieces just waiting for me, especially my favourite find of the week.

I had done a few laps of the tip shop and picked up a few pretty pieces of pyrex and was about to leave when I noticed a little blue sew machine case in the corner.  I don't usually check out all the sewing machines, but this one had a lovely wooden base so I thought I'd lift up the lid and I'm so glad I did because underneath was this lovely lady.

She is in the most wonderful condition and is the prettiest shade of blue and she even works.  She totally made my day. Oh and I found the lovely vintage sheet too, a perfect match.

My other favourite finds for the week was this gorgeous pair of dresses that were hanging side by side, just waiting for me.  Both are in need to a little love and I can't wait to give them a new lease on life.

Exciting news! It's nearly that time of the year again... Flea Market Find of the Year time! Stay tuned throughout the week for more details and start thinking about your favourite find from the year or get hunting for that treasure you have been after.  What better reason to go thrifting!

I'd love to know what you found this week.  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. My Place and Yours.. On the Shelf

I was so delighted to visit Vic over at Punky & Me this afternoon to find out that her wonderful meme (that once belonged to Pip) was back! I always love playing along with My Place and Yours and I'm so excited to see it's return to Saturdays.   This week's theme is On the Shelf, which was also the first ever theme chosen two years ago. Pop over here to see what I posted back then.

Right now, my favourite shelf in the house just has to be in my little vintage studio.  It's a mix of my collections and bits and pieces I'm gathering for Sophie Isobel Vintage and I delight in adding new finds every week.

There is a little something for everyone on these shelves..

My favourite corner just has to be my collection of woodland critters.  The little baby deer was a new addition from this morning's outing.  Isn't he the sweetest.

And on the bottom shelf..

Vintage heels.. These are all waiting patiently to find loving new owners.  What's more fun than rows of pretty shoes?

So what's on your favourite shelf?  Pop over to Punky & Me to play along and check out all the lovely shelves.

Happy Weekend..

Good Morning! I do hope you are having a lovely start to the weekend.  I must say I've been looking forward to the weekend at home all week, I've been missing our regular coffee and thrifting adventures.  So we began early this morning, heading straight to Around Again, to potter around amongst the treasures.  Can't wait to show what  I discovered.  Then we popped into Fine & Sunny to visit the girls and check out their gorgeous new little cafe set up.  What could be more perfect than coffee, sweet treats and lovely goodies on a Saturday morning.  I snapped the photo above from my new favourite spot in town (at the head the communal table).  If you are in Mildura be sure to pop in and say hi and be sure to try the caramel slice, it's amazing! NYC Tasty Delights..

Our trip to NYC would not have been complete without sampling some of the fabulous local cuisine.  We enjoyed such yummy food and delightful treats, I had my iPhone out to take photos almost every time we sat down to eat.  Everything just seems more wonderful in New York.. So I thought I'd share just a few of my favourite delights over our ten day adventure.

A lovely way to start the day with a fabulous latte from Stumptown Coffee

A bagel for breakfast or brunch.. my favourite, salmon and cream cheese

A late lunch on the go after a day of shopping.. This yummy selection came from a fabulous cafe around the corner from Anthropologie

Our slow lunch day, Caesar salad and a lovely glass of sparkling wine in Greenwich Village

While we were there, it was almost impossible not to stop at Magnolia Bakery for a fabulous vanilla cupcake

And in Manhattan, it's hard to go past a pretty pink cocktail, this one is a Pink Victrola from Niles

Of course, a trip to the Big Apple would not be complete without a piece of New York cheesecake from Juniors, which we enjoyed while people watching in Bryant Park.

My goodness, I've only just begun.. Next week I'll be sharing some of my favourite places in NYC, to eat, shop and play so I'll be sure to share a few more delights then!

Happy Friday!
