Flea Market Finds..

Happy Sunday! I do hope you are having a delightful weekend and have found a moment to search a thrift shop or two. It's such a joy to see everyone's finds throughout the week, I'm always so inspired make a mad dash for the closest thrift shop during my lunch break.  Need some thrifty inspiration, just check out last week's wonderful finds over here.

This week was a really busy one and I didn't get as much time to thrift as I would have liked.  I found a few more lovely bits and pieces for my vintage shop (which I'm excited to say is very close to finally being ready for business).  I also spotted this little treasure as we were leaving the local tip shop yesterday.

A lovely retro vinyl stool in almost perfect condition for $5.  I was very happy indeed.  I just love the colour and Olive has already claimed it as her new favourite place to relax.

So what have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. It would be just so sweet of you to link back here from your blog too, so that others can play along.  Remember you can play any time during the week! Happy Weekend..

It is the most delightful weekend here in Mildura, perfectly overcast with that wonderful scent of Autumn lingering in the air.  Maple leaves scatter the ground and the afternoon breeze brings the sweet chill that reminds you to do up your jacket and pop on a beret.  Days like this are just perfect for long lunches, lovely cups of coffee, crochet and pretty films.  I've just returned from a trip to Spotlight for a stash of yarn and can't wait to curl up and begin a new project. What are your plans this weekend?  As always, here are some of my favourite links for the week I thought you might enjoy..

Journal Pages..

After finishing my blanket a few nights ago, I felt a little bit lost for a project last night.. until I noticed a huge pile of untouched magazines just waiting to be explored.  Armed with a new glue stick and my trusty scissors, I set to work in my inspiration journal, capturing my current thoughts and inspirations.  It really is one of my favourite ways to relax, dream and dance through ideas and magical thoughts. Where to you stash your favourite images?

My Creative Space..

Winter is just the best time to crochet.. I find myself searching for a hook and some yarn every time I sit down to warm up at night. So this week, armed with some lovely soft yarn, a nice hook, a few pots of tea and good film or two I whipped up a warm little baby blanket for a lovely friend of mine.  I enjoyed it so much, I can't wait to start my next project.  And the beauty of crochet is, the more you do, the bigger the blanket gets and the warmer it keeps you in the process. I really do love this time of year.

My Creative Space..

Isn't it funny, when I'm right in the middle of getting one thing finished, I'm totally inspired to create something else.  Thank goodness I picked a little project this week.  Inspired by the Purl Bee, I dusted off my sewing machine and made a little pouch for my handbag using fabric from a thrifted apron.  The flowers instantly made me dream of my favourite little tale, The Secret Garden so I added a little bit of text to the front as a lovely reminder of Spring.

So what have you been creating this week.  Pop over to the new home of Our Creative Spaces to play and check out all the wonderful spaces.

Sweet Inspiration..

Today I'm loving all things pink! Who can resist some sweet inspiration.. especially when it's so pretty and perfectly girly.  I made coconut ice a few weeks ago to take to Curious Crafters from the lovely Frankie Sweet Treats recipe book.  It was always a favourite of mine at the school fete so easy and fun to make.  Perfect with a cup of tea or two.

Words of Wisdom...

My beautiful friend Tara and I when we were 17, in art class..we were inseparable.

Inspired by an image I saw on Pinterest last night, I thought I'd write a little list of wisdom to by 17 year old self.  Here it is..

* Buy as much Polaroid film as possible

*Use it to capture every moment

* Start thrifting more often.. Note: Look out for typewriters

* Take Home Economics instead of Legal Studies

* Be carefree and spend more time staring at the clouds

*Dye your hair a wonderfully outrageous colour

* Trust your soul and make art that you love

* Start your vintage shoe collection right now

* Ask the library lady if you can keep the old library cards

* Enjoy every precious moment

So here are a few fun facts, in July I will be 27 and in October I will be attending my 10 year high school reunion. Being a high school teacher myself, the whole experience is a little bit surreal. I am so much the person that I was in that photo and yet, I have come so far and become someone new all at the same time. Oh how time flies when you are living an crazy little adventurous life!

My Creative Space..

What a week! It's only Thursday and I feel like I've already filled my week with a whole lot of creativity.  I've been sewing, making yummy treats, teaching a crochet class and I've finished my very first piece of crocheted clothing.

The idea for this little vest came about because I couldn't find one when I went shopping recently. So after a quick trip to Spotlight for some lovely cream yarn I started with my trusty hook. With no pattern, I was certainly winging the whole thing and I'm a bit excited and surprised because it actually worked!  Not only that, it was really fast and fun to make. Now I'm very inspired and am already planning a longer version in black.  Who knew it was so easy to make your own clothes, I think I'm totally hooked!

For many more wonderful creative spaces, pop over to it's brand new home over here.

Thoughts on Time and Sunshine..

So this afternoon as I drove home from work, hoping to beat the sun before it went down.. I had a realisation. You see all I wanted to do was take a few photos and I was against the clock.  I thought I was just getting busier, you know how it is as the year progresses.  But as I looked in the rear view mirror, I began to ponder the fact that in the last two months I've lost nearly two hours of sunshine.  Which, I realised means two less hours, to potter around, set up and take photos, which is often my favourite time of day. Growing up in Queensland I didn't notice the change from Summer to Winter so much but down here in Victoria, the change is rapid and takes a little while to get used to.  So, why am I rambling on this chilly May evening?  Well I just thought I'd ask if you have a similar problem.  How do you find the extra hours in your day? It seems for the next few months I'm going to have to be the most organised blogger on the block, if I'm going to take afternoon photos.  Thoughts, hints, tips, I'd love to hear them!

What I Wore.. Inner Gypsy

I had the amazing opportunity to see Sacred Earth perform on Saturday night with my dear friends Meg and Kate.  It was a truly amazing experience, their beautiful music resonated in me, long after the concert had finished.  It was a lovely occasion to find my inner gypsy, who had taken a back seat, to my more conservative work style after I got back from my bohemian week away.  I bought this lovely dress (which I wore as a skirt) from Meg's beautiful little shop The Soul Garden and floated around feeling like a fairy for the evening. I haven't worn pink in years but I was drawn to the lovely vintage floral pattern and the sweet mustard flowers.  I teamed it with a simple black knit top and the softest cream scarf and a cropped denim jacket when it got a little chilly later in the evening.

Sacred Earth are currently touring Australia and if you have the chance, they are just breathtaking to experience live.  Pop over to their website for details and to listen to their beautiful music.

Reasons I Love my Mum #216

I love my mum because she inspires me every day.  We talk on the phone almost every afternoon and are always making bizarre references to blog posts, magazine articles and designers that to any one listening (we often talk whilst grocery shopping) would sound like utter nonsense.  One of my favourite ways to connect with my mum is through our collaborative Pinterest board, Maggie and Annie

We have big ideas for collaborating on an exciting project together in the near future and our board gives us the perfect place to define our collective aesthetic and be inspired on a daily basis. Oh and it's so much fun! I I often make random phone calls just to squeal, 'Oh that photo you just pinned is so gorgeous!  I love those colours!' etc, etc.  She truly has the most fabulous sense of style and the best eye for amazing interiors.  I bought her The Selby book for Mother's Day and was woken up this morning by a phone call very similar to the one described above.

Happy Mother's Day to my favourite partner in crime!

Flea Market Finds..

I love playing Flea Market Finds on a Sunday because I get to celebrate so many lovely days in the year! Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful mothers, grandmothers, step mothers and mothers to be.  I hope you enjoy a truly magical day with those you adore!

So have you been thrifting this week? Perhaps you had a chance to go hunting with you mum. Thanks to everyone who played along last week, your finds never cease to amaze me.  Pop over here to check them all out.

I had a few wonderful outings this week, searching for pieces to fill my shop, oh and of course my home too.  I found some fabulous dresses I can't wait to share with you next week and also a few more lovely pairs of shoes. But what made my heart flutter this week was a stop at new (to me) second hand warehouse, surprisingly just around the corner from my home.  Oh my, was I excited when I walked though the door, just before closing. I will certainly be going back next week for a better look around.

My favourite finds for the week were this pretty vintage silk blouse, fabulous 1960s scarf and a lovely 1970s Singer typewriter to add to my ever growing collection.

So what have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies. Happy Weekend..

Happy Weekend! What are your wonderful weekend plans?  Are you doing anything special for Mother's Day? This weekend I'm on a mission, I've got a room to finish creating for Sophie Isobel Vintage and some clothing organisation to begin.  You see, we are certainly starting to feel the beginnings of winter here, so this weekend it's time to trade our summer wardrobes for winter ones. With very little cupboard space, we store our clothes away by seasons.  It is a little bit like Christmas as I often forget all the clothes I bought for last winter by the time the next one rolls around. Here are a few of my favourite links for the week I thought you might enjoy.

My Creative Space..

My creative space this week is a little 'leftovers' project.  I found this sweet retro tea towel whilst thrifting a few weeks back and loved the colours and pattern so much I didn't want to hide it in the third drawer.  So instead I thought I'd make a really easy wall hanging using a wire hoop left over from last week's lampshade, a piece of felt and a few buttons. With almost no sewing involved, its super fast and a lovely way to display pretty fabric scraps, vintage pillow cases or crazy tea towels.

I'll me making a little DIY tutorial for this project for a guest post in a few weeks so stay tuned.
For many more lovely creative spaces pop over to Kirsty's.

Homes I Adore.. Junkaholique

I have always loved the beautiful and eclectic world of Artemis and Nao, who share their home, life, business and love on the gorgeous blog, Junkaholique.  I have previously featured this couple's beautiful wedding tent and Artemis' ever inspiring studio shed, but there blog is so full of incredible images of their life and home, I just couldn't resist giving them a special feature for Homes I Adore.

Artemis and Nao are the most fabulously busy couple, not only running the most lovely jewellery shop, Rust but also a very inspiring little vintage shop too! This clever couple also finds time to enjoy the sunshine in their ever changing vintage inspired home with their lovely cat, Plimsoll. Artemis and Nao create their home using gorgeous vintage finds and also reinvent modern pieces with a little imagination and a coat of paint or two.  I love the way Artemis uses sweetly handcrafted pieces throughout their home to create a lovely homely warmth and sincerity to each room. Hiding in each nook, sweet thrifted finds and books just waiting to be read.  I would just love to pop in for a cup of tea!

The lovely couple can be found at Rust Jewellery and also playing in their vintage shop, The Bucket Tree.  Do pop over and check them out, both shops are just brimming with delights.  I especially have my eye on this gorgeous necklace!

Review: My Heart Wanders

I must start by saying, I am so truly excited to be reviewing My Heart Wanders by Pia Jane Bijkerk.  I have been waiting with much anticipation for its release and just about burst with joy when my copy arrived in the mail.

A memoir, a love story and a wild adventure, My Heart Wanders is simply breathtaking.  Intimate, strong and truly captivating, my heart quickened as I turned each page.  Pia has always felt like a long lost friend.  Many a night you will find me reading Paris: Made by Hand, with a pot of tea and my journal ready to take notes.  I always felt welcome reading Pia’s delicious blog and peeking momentarily inside her world.  And yet there is a part of Pia that has always been a beautiful mystery, which through the pages of My Heart Wanders is delicately revealed.

Pia’s eye for detail, deeply personal verses and enveloping images took my heart on its very own journey.  I felt at home between the covers, revelling in each moment with Pia, as she combed the flea markets of Paris for the perfect dining table and settled into the Dutch way of life upon her tiny houseboat.

The splendour of Pia’s memoir is that each word is written from the soul.  It is the true calling of one’s heart that breathes a beautiful sincerity upon each page.  Nature plays a vital role in grounding Pia’s vivid desciptions and sweetly meandering thoughts.  Gentle images of blossoming trees and snow covered landscapes dance harmoniously with mood boards and Pia’s exquisite styling.

I have always said my heart belongs to Paris and it is this image of Paris that Pia captured upon her enchanting pages.  I now long for a moment for my own heart to take a journey, to experience a sense of adventure, to seek new horizons. My Heart Wanders is a truly beautiful reminder that home is, wherever you make it.

Happy Sunday! How has your thrifting week been? Did you find anything fabulous? Perhaps you found a lovely little new thrift shop or your old faithful had a sale.  I'd love to know! As always, it's so wonderful to have you playing along.  To check out all of last week's finds, pop over here.

This week I hit the jackpot early, with a few lovely pairs of shoes and fun 1970's dress, which will be going into my vintage shop but my thrifting luck quickly ran out and yesterday I didn't find a great deal at all.  Hopefully I will have more luck next week.  I think a little road trip might even be in order.  On Thursday, I did find a few bits and pieces for myself, including..

A cute pair of turquoise heels, a little mixing bowl, some fun fabric and my favourite find.. a pretty little painting.  I would love to find a few more similar and hang them as a cluster.

So what have you found this week?  To play along just leave a comment and add your flea market blog post link in the Linky below so we can all check out your goodies.
