How do you get organised?

image via weheartit

I've been pondering this question for a little while now and would just love to hear from you. How do you organise all your favourite links and images on your computer? I seem to have lovely pictures saved all over the place and I finding it hard to keep track of where they all came from. I'd love to know if anyone has any tips or wonderful ways of getting one's computer organised.

Remember that I'm drawing my summer giveaway on Saturday so there are only a few days left to enter. Pop over here and leave me a comment go into the draw.

Happy Thursday!
Much Love

  1. I think a lot of people save their images on tumblr, I haven't used it so I can't give any first hand useful info - I am helpful like that

  2. i was going to say tumblr too. You can get a little bookmarky thing (i'm fairly sure that's the technical term} that goes on your browser so you can just click and go Share on Tumblr. That worked for me for a while. Save to a folder and rename? At the moment I am trying Evernote, online notetaking system. And because it has an iphone app. I also star things in my google reader.
    {sorry tad long, but I empathise, I have the same problem and always looking for a solution}

  4. I just folder everything in Picasso by date (year, month, day)and caption. Since Picassa is a Google app and so is Blogger, plus all Blogger photos go to a Picassa web album.

Not too hi-tech. But that's my filing system.

  5. Well... I try to be organised. Not sure if it works entirely. I use firefox and pop folders of like links along my bookmarks toolbar. Every three months or so, I go through them and decide whether or not to keep/delete them... sort of a faves spring clean. Images, I have on flickr & picasa online and iPhoto on my mac. iPhoto is really great at sorting your shots for you, I really recommend the latest version of it for Mac users! Images from other people I save into similar folders on my desktop like my bookmark folders. They also get a clean out regularly! Whew!

  6. Don't ask me. I am the world's worst. My inbox has nearly 6000 emails alone. If you find the secret, please blog a post about it to save me. xx

  7. Sophie, i am absolutely terrible at it! i just bung all my images into one folder... but i do try to save them with their original title and maker, which kinda helps... :)

but i got fed up trawling through dozens of files, so i too am giving the tumblr thing a go for my very favourite images... http://emmalamb.tumblr.com/ ...the nice thing about it so far is that i can save all the relevant links with each pic so i can always find my way back to the original source. oh, and it also lets me add tags to them, so it's going to be a lot easier to search through them all... :)
the only thing i'm not really sure about is how to find other tumblr blogs, but i don't think that's going to be an issue if i'm only using mine a a gallery tool.

well, that was quite a long winded version of saying i'm using tumblr wasn't it!?
    have a great day,

  8. I am very sloppy when it comes to computer type things. My desktop is starting to look like a patchwork quilt and I have forgotten what my screen saver image looks like!! My only attempt at some kind of organisation is to pile everything into a folder marked 'cupboard' in a 'to deal with at a later date' kind of way. I'm thinking of creating some new folders named, 'rug' and 'recycling bin'...!

  9. Links to tutorials I save in my bookmarks (boring old IE user here!) but I make new folders for different crafts - so I will have a folder for ME, then sub folders under that for Crochet, Knitting, Sewing, Scrapping, Writing etc. If it gets too much or I decide to use one of the tutorials, I will copy and save to my hard-drive which again is a folder system. Same goes for my folders.

Mind you - I am the most dis-organised person out. I have photos on three computers that need to be copied to the server eeek!!!

  10. I was totally lost on this until I started using Backpack ( http://www.backpackit.com ) and now I just keep that app open and, when I find something I love, be it a photo or link or snippet of text, I add it to my "scrapbook" Backpack page.
